چکیده

This paper outlines a causal reasoning chain approach of a Knowledge Based System architecture for medical applications. It is examined within the context of a fetal health decision support system module to provide diagnosis of pregnancy-induced hypertension, or pre-eclampsia. A simplified example is presented to illustrate our approach.

A Causal-Functional Model Applied to EMG Diagnosis

This paper presents an EMG diagnostic Knowledge Based System, that is the first application of our methodology for reasoning with causal-functional (meta-)models. Despite past difficulties, diagnosis is still an important application of KBSs, if considered in an appropriate context of medical practice. We argue that this is the case with neurophisiology, which lends to deep modelling of the dom...

System Modeling by Computer using Biomedical Texts

In the present paper we describe a new Artificial Intelligence method of system modeling that utilises causal knowledge extracted from different texts. The equations describing the system model are solved with a Prolog program which receives data such as values for its parameters from the text analysis subsystem. The knowledge extraction from the texts is based on the use of our knowledge repre...

A Dynamic Temporal Neuro Fuzzy Inference System for Mining Medical Databases

The analysis and representation of temporal data are becoming increasingly important in many areas of research and application. The existing Fuzzy Cognitive Maps (FCMs) are efficient modeling method for knowledge representation and fuzzy reasoning in time series analysis. In the past, it was used to represent a complex causal system as a collection of concepts and causal relationships among con...

Explanatory power for medical expert systems: studies in the representation of causal relationships for clinical consultations.

Abstract J.W. Wallis and E.H. ShortliffeJ.W. Wallis and E.H. The goals of an explanation system are discussed, as is the additional knowledge needed to meet these goals in a medical domain. We have focussed on the g...

A Diagnostic Algorithm based on Models at Different Level of Abstraction

The difficulties encountered in applying knowledge-based system technology to complex industrial environments have made the need for representing and using deep knowledge about physical systems increasingly clear to system designers. A rather large number of approaches to modeling and reasoning with deep knowledge have been experimented, but the impact of these new techniques, often referred to...
